The Norma Anders Public Library will have their annual Easter Extravaganza on Saturday, April 16th at 10 in the morning.  There will be an Easter Egg hunt, stories, games, and treats.  Parents and Grandparents are welcome and encouraged to attend.  This is for anyone up to the age of 10 years old. Easter Extravaganza

Form a team and "race" your way to top reader status.  Race to the finish line by reading this summer.  Your team will compete against other teams by recording the books (title & number of pages) that you read and attending pit stops throughout the summer. 

Team registration:  June 1 @1:00 p.m. at the Norma Andres Public Library.  **Teams that attend pit stops and complete the race will be awarded prizes based on their reading race totals. 

6th, 7th and 8th graders will form teams of three.  This race will start June 1st and finish on August 13th.

What could be more fun than "monkeying" around at the library this summer?  Preschool through second grade children should plan to attend summer story hour to join in the fun and mischief that monkeys would be proud of.

Registration for Go Bananas for Books will be June 1st between 12:00-6:00p.m.   Participants will be able to pick up their summer reading logs, check out books and preview coming story hour events.

 

Children finishing third through fifth grades will also be invited to participate in the library's summer reading program.  Registration will be June 1st between 12:00 and 6:00 p.m.  Pick up reading logs and instructions at that time.

As part of our summer story hour theme the Blank Park Zoo from Des Moines is bringing a small zoo animal exhibit.  There will be several small animals and will be brought for show and tell.  These animals may or may not be able to be handled by the children and if your child is afraid of small animals then please let them know what is happening so they may choose not to come that day.  It will be something new and different and never before done at the library and should be very interesting and informative.  Parents are invited and encouraged to attend.

Come and enjoy Dysart's Annual Chocolate walk.  Every store will feature a different kind of chocolate to sample and purchase.  The local merchants will host vendors from other communities and the many different kinds of chocolates they make.  It is a very good opportunity to see all the wonderful shops in Dysart and enjoy trying all kinds of different things made of chocolate.

The Norma Anders Public Library will hold our annual summer story hour every Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. starting Wednesday, June 6th and ending Wednesday, June 27th.  This will be for all children pre-school aged through 9 with special events for the Junior High school aged kids.  The theme for this years program is Dream Big, Read!

Scare up some Halloween fun a the Norma Anders Public Library's annual Halloween Carnival Spooktacular.  There will be carnival games for all including gourd bowling, go fish, pumpkin ring toss,  treat walk, bean bag toss, face painting and so much more.

 

Parents and Grandparents are welcome and encouraged to attend this family event.  Children, come in costume and bring a treat bag or bucket for your prizes.

The Norma Anders Public Library is having their annual Easter Story Hour and Egg hunt which will be immediately following the town's Easter Egg Hunt.  It will be held at the Norma Anders Public Library at 320 Main.  Parents welcome and encouraged to come with your kids.  Bring a basket for your children to put their eggs in.

Dig Into Reading at the Norma Anders Public Library.

 

Children 3-8 years old will be Wednesdays from 1:00 to 2:00 starting June 12th, then continuing June 19th, June 26th, July 10th and July 17th.

**Special Event featuring Ronald McDonald Wednesday, July 24th at 10:00 a.m. for Preschool through 5th grade.  Summer story hour prizes will be awarded immediately following the "McDig'n It!" program and then there will be a hot "diggity" dog lunch after the prize awards.

June 12th at 1:00 the Dysart Garden Club will help children plant perennials in the library gardens.

June 26th at 1:00 Kristin Simon of ECICOG will present "Earl the Earthworm Digs for His Life."

On June 26th from 3:00 to 4:00p.m. the 2nd through 5th graders will experience a fossil dig, step in a T-Rex footprint and more when the Grout museum presents "Digging up Dinosaurs!" (Registration is required  *maximum capacity of 30 kids)

Please use the story hour registration form that is attached to this Summer Library Program tab or stop by the library to fill out the form there.

Summer reading rules for the Preschool through 2nd are as follows:

The summer reading goal is to read 20 books.  Read and record the title for each book your child reads. If children read chapter books, also record the number of pages (32 pages=1book).

Parents/older siblings/grandparents may read to young children unable to read by themselves.

Children who turn in reading logs at story hour each week will be entered into the weekly drawing for a mini prairie dog puppet (June 19, June 26th, July10th and July 17th).

Reading logs can also be turned in anytime at the library in a box marked Pre-2nd "Dig into Reading" until 6:00 p.m. on July 17th.

All participants will receive a coupon for a free admission to the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines and are invited to the hot dog lunch following Ronald McDonald's visit to the library July 24th.

The summer story hour prize drawing will be immediately following Ronald McDonald's July 24th visit to the library (approximately 11:00 a.m.)

Summer reading rules for the 3rd through 5th are as follows:

Read and record the title and page numbers for the age appropriate books read.

Reading logs can be turned in at the library in a box marked 3rd-5th "Dig into Reading".

Your summer goal is to read 500 pages.  Attendance at library programs will get you an additional entry into the prize drawing.  Also, if you read more than 500 pages you will get an extra chance at prizes.  Multiple entries will increase your odds of winning.

All participants will receive the Blank Park Zoo passes and are invited to enjoy the hot dog lunch after Ronald McDonald's visit on July 24th when prizes will also be distributed.

Dysart's 9th Annual Wine Tasting Fall Festival.  Main Street, Dysart, Iowa.   Saturday, September 28th, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.   Price $15 buys a complimentary wine glass with a logo.  Wines from select Iowa Wineries will be featured.  Tastings will be hosted in the local businesses rain or shine.  There will also be a Let's talk about wine presentation and Live music by Getaway City Band, Food, Specialty Booths, Vintage Cars and more!  Sponsored by the Dysart Development Corporation and the Dysart Business Builders.

The Norma Anders Public Library will start a weekly story hour for children from ages two through pre-kindergarten.  It will be held every Friday morning starting at 9:30 and the average length of each week's story hour will be about half an hour.  Parents are invited to come and stay with their children.  We don't require pre-registration but it would be helpful for us to have some idea of how many children to expect so it would be appreciated.

Come and enjoy part two of Pastor Daniel Hartwig's trip to the Holy Land. This time he will be covering Southern Israel.  The first part of his program was on April 30th.  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come and bring a friend.  Seating is limited to 50 so come early for a good seat.  The program lasts about an hour and a half.

Miss Brenda will be starting her preschool story hour on Friday, September 11th at 9:30.  Pre-registration would be welcomed but not necessary. This is going to be a weekly event following the school calendar and school closed days.  Every child ages 3 through whatever age they start kindergarten is invited.  Parents are encouraged to come and stay.  If for any reason school gets cancelled or there is no school there will not be a story hour that Friday.  This will run through the school year until Mid-May.

Come and enjoy a Virtual Ark Encounter Tour with Pastor Daniel Hartwig  Tuesday, October 25th at 7:00p.m. in the Learning Center at the Norma Anders Public Library.  Pastor Daniel will share his pictures of the full-sized replica of Noah's Ark taken during his family's visit in July.  Everyone is welcome to attend.
